the town

Locorotondo, the "Round Town", is situated in an altitude of 410 meters in the hills of the Murge, about 12 kilometers from the Adriatic coast. Founded in the 12th century under the rule of the Normans, the medieval circular old town has fully preserved.

Narrow streets with whitewashed walls and window and door enclosures in pale stone, steep roofs covered with stone slabs, the Cummerse, form a unique closed townscape which is caringly cultivated by the inhabitants and is considered one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia. Locorotondo is the center of the wine region of the same name; the white wine Bianco di Locorotondo is pressed from Verdeca and Bianco d'Alessano.
